Transport plan

Check the hospital exit, parking, route home and likely traffic.

Confirm who will drive and a backup transport option.

Save hospital, maternity care and support contact numbers.

Check the forecast and pack a suitable baby outfit without bulky layers under the harness.

Child restraint

Use a rearward-facing child restraint that meets the Australian mandatory standard.

Follow the restraint and vehicle instructions or use an authorised fitting service.

Practise adjusting the harness and check that straps are not twisted.

Remove unapproved head supports, inserts or accessories.

First hours at home

Prepare a firm, flat and clear infant sleep space.

Set up a simple feeding and hydration station for the parent.

Place nappies, wipes and spare clothing within easy reach.

Confirm who can help with meals, pets, siblings or household tasks.
