Before baby arrives

Check that you can sign in to myGov and access linked services.

Review possible eligibility for Parental Leave Pay and family assistance.

Collect identity, work and income information needed for claims.

Agree who will complete each employer and government form.

After the birth

Keep the Newborn Child Declaration supplied by the hospital or midwife.

Submit proof of birth through the required Services Australia process.

Enrol baby in Medicare or add baby through an eligible family payment claim.

Complete the separate birth registration process for your state or territory.

Confirm and file

Check claim status and respond to requests for more information.

Give your employer any agreed leave or proof-of-birth documentation.

Store confirmation numbers and digital copies securely.
